Mission Statement/School Family History

The TEP Mission: The staff, students, parents, and guardians of the Therapeutic Education Program are committed to helping all students acquire the academic, social, and behavioral skills necessary for general education participation. We believe that students have the right to learn these skills in a safe, structured, therapeutic environment.

TEP History: TEP was established in 1996 with the major focus of socializing students to normative standards in terms of interpersonal skills with peers and adults, to teach classroom behaviors that promote learning, and to encourage problem solving skills that eschew violent and aggressive strategies.

TEP Today: TEP provides special education services for approximately 100-120 students at a time.  Our program provides intense intervention for students with a variety of disabilities, including those eligible as ED, AU, OHI and ID.   We serve students of all ages, from Kindergarten to post-secondary Developmental (age 22). As Klein Independent School District has grown, TEP has grown and evolved to continue to meet the needs of our students.  We currently serve students with a broad range of educational needs, ranging from prerequisite skill level to grade level instruction with intensive behavioral supports.

For students in our Developmental/Life Skills population, TEP provides the prerequisite, multisensory learning environment necessary for their academic needs, while also providing additional staff with increased behavioral management training.  Students also receive the related services necessary for their Individual Education Plan as determined by the ARD committee.

For our Adaptive Behavior population, TEP uses proactive strategies to decrease the incidence and prevalence of behavior that impedes the learning environment by utilizing social skills instruction, academic remediation, counseling and behavioral interventions.
